MATAR is based on the lived experience of co-writer Ayman Alhussein, the film follows the story of an asylum seeker living in England who is forced into the fringes of society, relying on his bike to survive.

The film highlights the challenges of navigating the UK’s broken asylum system and the discrimination that those attempting to rebuild their lives in England are facing today.

MATAR is the newest WaterBear Original film and stars actor Ahmed Malek (The Swimmers) in the titular role, with BAFTA-nominated actor Youssef Kerkour (Home) and Elmi Rashid Elmi (The Swimmers). This docu-fiction short film is directed by BAFTA-winning Hassan Akkad and produced by Deadbeat Studios in association with Choose Love.
