Insight is a photographic expolration of blindness through my Grandmother and her ongoing struggle with losing her sight. My Grandma, Dee Stimpson, suffers from glaucoma, I also suffer from a form of glaucoma. I have Congenital Glaucoma: a rare condition, hereditary and often treatable. My grandma’s non-genetical glaucoma has only recently developed but it has been devastating, rapidly deteriorating her vision through a build up of pressure.
My Grandma in the space of three years has lost 80% of her sight. This personal project sets out to demonstrate her strength of character and to visually communicate what it feels like to be going blind. Dee who turns 80 next year describes it as a bereavement, ‘you are suffering from a deep lose, which you battle against every day.’
